Where should I put my Marimo home?
Your Marimo home can be placed anywhere with bright to moderately bright light, and away from direct sunlight. If your space does not have a window, fluorescent light is also fine for it.
How do I take care of my Marimo?
To keep your Marimo happy, change the water every 2 weeks, or if you notice the water is cloudy. Marimo like cool water so avoid warm surfaces or areas.
Marimo are used to be rolled around by the water in their lakes so use your finger to push your Marimo around to make sure it gets some exercise* and helps them stay round.
For larger Marimos, when you change the water you can give them a gentle wash by putting them in a larger bowl of water and gentle squeeze them under the water like a sponge and rotating and squeezing again to maintain their round shape.
My Marimo has brown spots :/
The brown spots can be caused by the Marimo sitting on the same spot for too long (a few weeks or more), not allowing light to get into those areas. These brown spots can be removed by lighting trimming it away and then give the Marimo a nice wash. The hair of the Marimo will slowly grow back.
My Marimo has some white hair >:P
This may be a sign of sunburn. When you notice this occurrence, check if the location you place your aquarium is too warm. Marimo likes indirect sunlight, or weak sunlight, and water temperature to remain cool. Strong direct sunlight, or warm water can cause sunburn to the Marimo. You can lightly trim off the white hair, and the green hair will slowly grow back.
